What to see and do

Skrlatica descent Mojstrana is right on the doorstep of some of the most spectacular scenery in Slovenia, and almost every type of outdoor activity awaits you, from gentle summer strolls through the valley and villages, to trying your skill skiing the World Cup ski run at Podkoren, a few kilometres up the road.
We have written three guidebooks to the hills and mountains of Slovenia, so we are happy to advise you on the attractions of the area! (Click a book for ordering details).
On the way to Klek Hillwalking and mountaineering - in summer there are walks for every ability: from gentle valley walks to admire the alpine flower meadows, to the high but grassy slopes of the Karavanke hills, to the steep rocky ridges of the Julian Alps, many routes protected by via ferrata cables.
For the uninitiated, via ferrata are 'protected paths'. This can vary from steel handrails to sections of ladder bolted to the cliffs. There are ways the walker/scrambler can protect themselves against a fall from these exposed areas, without having to resort to all the equipment used in roped climbing. This means that routes which would otherwise have been inaccessible to anyone other than rock climbers become accessible to competent scramblers with a little additional training and equipment. Cross country skiing Winter opens up the snow clad mountains to the ice climbers and ski tourers. Lower down, there are many opportunities for snowshoeing in the forest.
The pistes of the well-known ski resort of Kranjska Gora are only 15 minutes drive away, and the resorts of Vogel, Krvavec and Kanin in Slovenia, Tarvisio and Sella Nevea in Italy, and Gerlitzen and Nassfeld in Austria are all within an hour or so's drive, allowing you to mix and match your skiing in a truly international holiday!
The outstanding prepared tracks and trails for cross country skiing wind through our valley, providing 40km of pistes at all levels.
Cycling: a prepared, surfaced cycle track links Mojstrana to Kranjska Gora and beyond to Tarvisio in Italy, making a safe cycling route for all the family. The track is also favoured by rollerbladers. Meanwhile a network of forest roads provides limitless opportunities for mountain bikers.
Other possibilities include tennis, with 3 clay courts a short walk away from the B&B. We can arrange lessons with a qualified English-speaking tennis coach.
The flora and fauna of the area are fascinating, and are just part of a landscape which invites you to photograph or paint it.
The Upper Sava valley has a rich cultural history, which is expressed in various festivals throughout the year. The Slovenian Alpine Museum is less than 5 minutes walk from the B&B.
Further afield, the capital city, Ljubljana, with its relaxed pavement cafes alongside the river, is perfect for a day trip, and the fairy-tale scenery of Bled and its lake island and castle, one of Slovenia's top tourist attractions, is less than 30 minutes by car. Slovenia is a pocket-sized country - even the coast and the beautiful town of Piran is only a couple of hours away, making it possible to ski in the morning and relax by the shore in the afternoon!
